T–festa

T–festa. Art T–shirt Festival
T–festa is a platform focused on the t–shirt format as a medium for artistic expression. Its objective is to encourage, promote and make visible t–shirts created by artists.

T–festa was born in the Basque Country from conversations between colleagues from the Bilbao Arte and Arteleku screen printing workshops. It arose from the need and desire to create a space that would consider the printing and intervention practices on t–shirts that artists carry out within their own practice. These are creative processes that transit between the circuits of both art and design.

T–festa was consolidated as an organization in 2011 by Laura Fernández Conde, Pernan Goñi, and Rosa Parma. Moreover, an image and a website were created in collaboration with Iñaki Rodríguez, which later led to a festive event.

In June 2012, the first T–festa (Art T-shirt Festival) took place in AlhóndigaBilbao (Azkuna Zentroa), where for four days the work of 32 artists who had been selected through a T-festa public call was shown. The exhibition was accompanied by a program that included concerts, workshops, and talks. This inaugural festival was followed by a second edition in 2014, and a third edition in 2016.

During that time, the project grew and diversified into a parallel program that included a series of activities and collaborations of a continuous nature; presentations took place at Espacio Puerta (Bilbao) in which, by invitation, various artists produced several editions of t-shirts by way of the T–festa OPEN and T–festa Cita proposals. Furthermore, educational workshops and collaborations also materialized with organizations such as Zarata Fest and Bilbao Art District.

The last T–festa exhibition event took place at the European Institute of Design (IED) located in Madrid, in 2017, and was produced as a t-shirt retrospective that encompassed former T–festa platform creations.

Since 2018, T–festa has transitioned into a platform managed by Rosa Parma who maintains the website as an archive for consultation; additionally, she has continued to collaborate with other artists through the production company Guarrrilla Press and the Pink Parma T–shirt brand, based in Brooklyn both of which are in constant relationship with Bilbao (Basque Country).
